Living with the physical challenges of Muscular Dystrophy never stopped Barbara Misheck from spreading her wings. Barbara released her first book of memoirs A Wing and a Prayer: An Artist’s Journey with Muscular Dystrophy. Misheck writes about growing up with a disability that she shares with her sister. Born in Cleveland, she was diagnosed at age 5 with Limb girdle Muscular Dystrophy, a group of disorder affecting voluntary muscles causing weakness and wasting mainly around the hips and shoulders. Although she lost her ability to walk, Misheck regained her freedom through use of a wheelchair. She graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Published by Publish America, A Wing and a Prayer took three years to complete, Inspired by authors such as Christopher Reeve and Brooke Ellison, Misheck said she hopes her book can provide hope and comfort to others living with disabilities. Besides being a published author, Misheck was a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society. Her work has been included in approximately 70 national and international group exhibits.
